FAQ's

Q1. How big are the pens for dogs?
A1. Average size is 20 feet long and 7 feet wide. Some pens are larger still.

Q2. Will my dog be boarding on its own?
A2. 90% of dogs are very succesfully paired and love the company. They share a pen and also share an outdoor run at playtime with one other dog. We can provide single accomodation, see fees for relevant costs.

Q3. How much contact will my pet have with people?
A3. There is at least one staff member in each of our facilities all day, more of course during peak seasons.

Q4. How often will my dog be excercised?
A4. We have 35 exercise yards, minimum time spent each day is 1.5 hours - subject to weather conditions and high or low season. Low season, dogs may spend up to half a day in the exercise yards.

Q5. What do we feed?
A5. Dogs: We carry some premium ranges, i.e Eukanuba dry food, Supercoat dry food, cooked chicken vegetables and rice mixture and fresh mince. Cats: Iams, Whiskas, Friskies dry, fresh kangaroo meat, and large range of canned food.

If your pet is fussy or has special dietary requirements, you are welcome to bring your own food along. We do not stock kitten or puppy food, therefore recommend you bring this along if your pet is under one year of age.

Q6. If my pet becomes unwell during its stay what happens?
A6. Our policy is to use your pets vet, they know your pet best. If they are unavailable or distance is a problem we will use our own on call vet, who would then confer with your veterinarian. We will contact you prior to making any decisions, in the event that you or your designated contact can not be reached, we will use our discretion.

Q7. Which type of vaccination should my dog have?
A7. All dogs boarding must be vaccinated with a C5 vaccine. Proof of current (being within 12 months) vaccination must be presented before your dog is eligible for boarding.

Q8. How big are the cat pens?
A8. We have many types and sizes of cat pens ranging from 20 feet x 7 feet, scaling down to 8 feet x 4 feet.  We also have a section with heating and air conditioning.

Q9. Will my cat be on its own?
A9. Yes, we never mix cats, however if you have two cats from the one family, they certainly can share a pen.

Q10. Which type of vaccination should my cat have?
A10. We require your cat to have a F3 vaccination prior to boarding.  We also need to see the vaccination certificate.  Feline leukemia id not necessary.

Q11. Do I need to bring my dogs bedding and toys?
A11. This is not required. We provide fantastic hammocks for the larger dogs, where the small dogs are housed in moulded kennels, with fabric lining. We provide toys, however they are often not played with at the kennels, as there is so much activity, down time is low.

Q12. How often will my pet be fed?
A12. Main meal for the day is served in the morning, many pets are on two meals per day, we are more than happy to accommodate any request, even three meals for small fussy dogs is fine with us.

Q13. What time should I check my pet in?
A13. R. The earlier in the day the better, this allows staff more time to spend with your pet to ensure they have settled.

Q14. Can I go to the enclosure that my pet(s) is/are staying in and settle them in?
A14. To minimise disruptions to other pets holidaying at Cottage Kennels & Cattery, new arrivals are not able to be accompanied to their enclosures by owners.
